Leak Testing as a Service

Testing Service:
Helium Sniffer Testing

Targeted leak detection and localization

Targeted leak detection and localization

Helium sniffer testing is a proven method when leaks are not only to be detected but also localized as precisely as possible. MACEAS offers this testing method as a flexible testing service for components, assemblies, sample parts, pre-series, and small series.

The method is particularly suitable for components where potential leak points must be specifically examined—such as weld seams, flanges, sealing surfaces, screw connections, fittings, transitions, or difficult-to-access functional areas. This enables weaknesses in the component or manufacturing process to be precisely identified and specifically remedied.

Testing before market entry, release, or rework

Leaks can have significant consequences in many industries: malfunctions, quality problems, safety risks, complaints, or high consequential costs. With the MACEAS testing service, you can have your components reliably tested before delivery, during development, or after rework.

Helium sniffer testing is particularly suitable when there is a concrete suspicion of a leak or when components are to be specifically optimized during the development process. The method is also very well suited for troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and validation of repair measures.

How helium sniffing works

In the helium sniffer method, the test object is pressurized with a test gas. Depending on requirements, helium, a helium mixture, or a suitable forming gas can be used. The component is under defined overpressure relative to the ambient environment.

Test gas escaping at potential leak points is detected with a sniffer probe that is guided over the relevant areas of the test object. The probe is connected to a detection system. If helium or test gas is detected at a location, this indicates a leak.

The particular advantage: the leak point can not only be identified but also spatially localized. This makes the method very helpful when components are to be reworked, manufacturing processes evaluated, or design weaknesses identified.

Additional MACEAS Testing Methods

Our core competency, leak testing with a tracer gas such as helium, is a reliable method for detecting leaks in industrial applications. Thanks to the small molecular size of the tracer gas, even the smallest leaks can be precisely identified.

Good Reasons to Choose MACEAS

Supplement to other testing methods

Helium sniffer testing can be used independently or meaningfully supplement other testing methods. While helium vacuum leak testing enables particularly high sensitivity and reproducible leak rate measurement, the sniffer method is ideal when the specific leak point must be found.

For example, the method can be used after a conspicuous test to localize the cause of the leak. Even with complex assemblies or large components, sniffing is a practical method for specifically examining relevant sealing areas.

Testing service and live insight into modern testing technology

The MACEAS testing service not only provides you with reliable test results. You can also use the test to see our high-performance testing systems in action and gain a better understanding of modern leak testing.

This is particularly interesting if you want to evaluate whether an automated testing process, a customer-specific fixture, or your own testing system would be worthwhile for your production. The testing service thus becomes a practical decision-making basis for possible investments in quality assurance and testing technology.

Why MACEAS?

MACEAS has many years of experience in industrial leak testing and in building customer-specific testing systems. This expertise flows directly into our testing service. We consider not only the individual measurement result but also the technical testing task behind it: component geometry, test pressure, handling, fixturing, cycle time, and possible automation.

This provides you with practical testing with high technical significance—from the first sample part to series-ready quality assurance.
