Test systems for battery cells, modules, packs and thermal management
The battery is a key component of electromobility and modern energy storage systems. Whether in battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, fuel cell vehicles or stationary storage systems: batteries must function reliably, safely and efficiently over many years.
Leak tightness is a core quality factor. Even the smallest leaks can impair the service life, safety and performance of battery cells, battery modules, battery housings or cooling systems. MACEAS develops high-performance test systems for industrial leak testing in battery production – from component testing to end-of-line testing.
Why leak testing in battery
production is critical
Battery cells, cell components, modules and packs are highly sensitive technical systems. They must permanently withstand mechanical loads, temperature changes, moisture, pressure differences and chemical influences. Insufficient leak tightness can lead to moisture ingress, electrolyte leakage, corrosion, performance loss or safety-critical consequential damage.
Particularly in automated production, a reproducible, objective and documentable leak test is therefore required. It supports manufacturers in maintaining quality standards, detecting rejects early and ensuring the long-term reliability of products.
MACEAS offers customized test systems for this purpose, precisely tailored to component geometry, cell format, test requirements, cycle time and production environment.
Good reasons for MACEAS
Customized test systems
for battery production
Battery components differ greatly in geometry, material, volume, permissible test pressure and required leak rate. Therefore, MACEAS does not develop off-the-shelf standard solutions, but customer-specific test systems for concrete production and quality requirements.
Depending on the application, the systems can be designed as manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic test systems. Integration into existing production lines, connection to higher-level control and data systems, and design for different component variants are also possible.
Quality assurance along the battery value chain
Leak testing can be used at different points in battery production – from testing individual components to final end-of-line inspection. This allows defects to be detected early and process steps to be specifically secured.
Typical test points are:
- incoming goods inspection of components
- testing of cell housings and lids before cell assembly
- testing of assembled battery cells before or after certain process steps
- end-of-line testing of finally filled battery cells
- testing of battery housings and packs before assembly or delivery
- testing of thermal management components before integration into the battery system
